Lanier Islands' Lights Are Back and Longer: Which Night Is Worth the Drive?

From November 20 through January 3, a car rolling through the gate at 7000 Lanier Islands Parkway sees the same thing every night. The route has holiday music in the cabin, animated displays along the shoulders, and this year more than a mile and a half of new lights. That includes new vignettes, animated trees and décor stretched over the road itself. Last season the Lake Lanier Association described the route as six miles of displays, and the 2026 additions go on top of it.

The lights stay the same all season. The schedule around them changes. Depending on the date, the same per-car ticket can come with a food drive voucher, a Coca-Cola ornament, Santa arriving on a firetruck, or a holiday market waiting at the end of the drive. Pick your night by that calendar, not by the lights.

The parts that stay the same all 45 nights

Magical Nights of Lights runs nightly, holidays included, from 5 to 10 p.m. Tickets are priced per vehicle, not per person. Standard tickets for cars with up to 10 passengers start at $25 and vary by vehicle type and day of the week. Groups that fill a bigger vehicle pay flat rates:

Vehicle Passengers 2026 ticket
Standard Up to 10 Starts at $25, varies by night
Shuttle 11 to 20 $100
Bus More than 20 $250

You can buy tickets in advance or at the gate. The resort's FAQ also says the Magical Nights of Lights surcharge at the gate starts at 4 p.m. each night, an hour before the lights come on. If you're heading to the resort for something else in the late afternoon, plan around that 4 p.m. start.

Every route ends at Game Changer, the resort's 23,000-square-foot indoor playground, which serves as Holiday Headquarters for the season. Clark's Holiday Pop-Up Bar is open there every night of the run, from 5 to 10 p.m. It's styled after Christmas Vacation and serves specialty cocktails in Moose Mugs. Everything else at Game Changer runs on a schedule.

November 20 to 30: cans at the gate get a voucher back

The first eleven nights are Give Back Nights. Bring five cans of food to the front gate and you get a $20 voucher, split into $10 off License to Chill Snow Island and $10 off food and beverage at Game Changer. Alcohol is excluded. The cans go to the Georgia Mountain Food Bank. The resort's announcement says the food bank provided 8.5 million meals to 88,000 people across five counties in 2025, and a portion of gate proceeds goes to it all season.

This window lines up with Snow Island's opening, so a family planning both can use both halves of the voucher on the same trip. License to Chill Snow Island, run by Margaritaville at Lanier Islands, opens November 20 with snow tubing, skating, snow play and carnival rides. Margaritaville lists a winter season pass at $99.99 and daily tickets at $59.99, with daily tickets marked "available soon." Check the Snow Island page before counting on a price.

November 27 packs the most into one ticket

Friday, November 27 is the day after Thanksgiving, and more lines up that night than on any other date this season. Santa's Magical Arrival runs from 5 to 9 p.m., with Santa and his helpers pulling up to Game Changer on a fire truck to open the season. The resort's event page lists Cindy Lou Who, the Grinch, Buddy the Elf, Frosty and a real reindeer as part of the arrival.

The Holiday Market at Game Changer also opens that night. It has vendors chosen from local makers, artisans, boutiques and specialty retailers, and it's open 5 to 10 p.m. And because November 27 falls inside the Give Back window, the five-can voucher still works at the gate.

That means one drive on November 27 gets you the expanded lights, Santa's arrival, the market's first night and a food-drive voucher. The next morning, Saturday, November 28, is the first date for Breakfast with Santa, which runs 8 a.m. to noon on select dates. If you have family in town for Thanksgiving, that's two days of holiday events back to back without leaving the resort.

December settles into a Thursday-Friday rhythm

Once the Give Back window closes, December repeats a weekly pattern. Thursdays bring a gift at the gate, Fridays bring Santa and the market, and the market stays open Saturday night.

Date in 2026 What's added to the drive
Tuesday, Dec. 1 Buddy the Elf at Game Changer, 6 to 9 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 3 Coca-Cola ornament for the first 100 cars
Friday, Dec. 4 Santa at Game Changer, Cindy Lou Who and the Coca-Cola Polar Bear 6 to 9 p.m., Holiday Market
Saturday, Dec. 5 Polar Bear at Breakfast with Santa 9 a.m. to noon, Holiday Market at night
Thursday, Dec. 10 Coca-Cola ornament for the first 100 cars
Friday, Dec. 11 Santa at Game Changer, Holiday Market
Saturday, Dec. 12 Holiday Market
Thursday, Dec. 17 Coca-Cola ornament for the first 100 cars
Friday, Dec. 18 Santa at Game Changer, the Grinch 6 to 9 p.m., Holiday Market begins its final run

Some of the weekday labels on the resort's special experiences page don't match the 2026 calendar. It lists December 1 and December 5 as Fridays. The resort's separate event listing confirms Buddy the Elf on December 1, 2026, which falls on a Tuesday. The table above follows the dates, so if a weekday matters to your plans, check the resort's special experiences page before you go.

Friday, December 4 is the busiest night of the month. Santa's Game Changer visit, Cindy Lou Who, the Coca-Cola Polar Bear and the market all fall on the same evening. It's the closest December gets to November 27. Breakfast with Santa the next morning brings the Polar Bear back from 9 a.m. to noon.

Thursdays are a different kind of night. The ornament goes to the first 100 cars through the gate on December 3, 10 and 17. The schedule doesn't list Santa or the market on those nights. That makes a Thursday the better pick for a household that wants the new stretch of lights and a keepsake without a full evening at Game Changer.

The six nights before Christmas

The market's schedule opens up at the end. After three Friday-Saturday weekends, it runs six nights straight, December 18 through 23, from 5 to 10 p.m. Breakfast with Santa does the same, running December 19 through 23.

For last-minute shopping, December 21, 22 and 23 are the only weeknights all season when the market is open. The opening night of that stretch, December 18, also has the last scheduled Santa visit at Game Changer and the Grinch from 6 to 9 p.m. After December 23 the lights keep running through January 3, but none of the dated extras appear on the published schedule.

If guests are staying over, the resort's packages at Legacy Lodge, the Villas and the LakeHouses can include Breakfast with Santa on select days and Snow Island passes. Elf Tuck-Ins, where elves read a holiday story, bring cookies and leave a keepsake, come only with a package.

Matching the night to the outing

Since the lights don't change, pick your night by what you want around them:

  1. For the most in one trip: Friday, November 27. You get Santa's fire truck arrival, the market's first night and the Give Back voucher.
  2. For the most in December: Friday, December 4. You get Santa, Cindy Lou Who, the Polar Bear and the market.
  3. For a gift at the gate and a shorter evening: a Thursday, December 3, 10 or 17. Get there early enough to be one of the first 100 cars.
  4. To shop on a weeknight: December 21, 22 or 23, near the end of the market's six-night run.
  5. To support the food bank and save at Snow Island: any night from November 20 through 30, with five cans in the car.

Resort president Matthew Bowling said the 2025 response showed "it was clear that our fans missed it" after five years with no show. The 2025 season ran November 15, 2025 through January 4, 2026. He made the remark in the resort's October 1 announcement, which also promised special events throughout the season. All of these dates are the resort's announced plans, so check the Magical Nights of Lights page and holiday events page before you head out.
